IPSWICH Witches’ new speedway circuit will come under wider scrutiny Monday night (start 7.30pm) when the Swindon Robins visit Foxhall Stadium in an Elite League fixture.

The meeting is being shown live on Sky Sports TV and will give British shale sport followers a chance to see how much racing has improved since the track was widened last winter.

It has been universally accepted that the entertainment value is now much greater, with former Witch Shane Parker the latest rider to sing its praises.

The Australian, who came over to ride for the Witches in 1990, said after guesting for Coventry on Thursday: “It is so much better now. I only wish it was as it is now 20 years ago. It has been a tough year for Ipswich fans, and the Elite League is a hard league. But I’m sure the racing will continue to be thrilling.”

It will be a test of the current climate between fans and club how filled the Foxhall terraces are tonight.

Traditionally, off regular home night televised meetings suffer with more than half of the regulars staying at home and watching proceedings on the box.

The Witches, who need to win against the Robins to stand any chance of moving off the foot of the table by the end of the season, have worked hard to promote tonight’s contest and the evening will be dedicated to the Help for Heroes campaign.

Ipswich Speedway will be donating 1 per paying adult to the fund, with director Chris Louis saying: “We are all painfully aware of the sacrifices made by members of our Armed Forces overseas and we felt we should make a contribution to this very worthwhile cause.”

Children under 15 can enter free with a special voucher and accompanied by paying adult.
