A BB gun and ammunition were found by an inmate at a prison in Suffolk.
A prisoner discovered the .303 calibre bullet and gun inside a bin of clothing sent for recycling at the prison’s workshop at HM Prison Highpoint South near Newmarket.
He handed the items to staff during the incident on September 21.
The prison has stopped accepting any more clothing skips while the incident is being investigated.
A Prison Service spokesman said: “A pellet gun was discovered in a supervised sorting area outside HMP Highpoint. It was quickly removed and there was no risk to the security of the prison. An investigation is under way.”
