ONE of the BBC's longest-serving and best-known foreign correspondents has died.
Sir Charles Wheeler, who was 85, served as the corporation's chief US correspondent as well as Europe correspondent and had posts in Germany and South Asia.
He also worked for Newsnight for 15 years and was a Panorama producer.
