A beach patrol team at Clacton swung into action to rescue two dogs yesterday evening.
Spaniels Billy and Daisy made off from their owner on one of the newly-created beaches next to the pier at around 6pm.
The female owner, from the town, had a third dog on a lead and was unable to rescue Billy from the sea and Daisy from a rock groyne.
Tendring District Council’s beach patrol, who were clearing away after the Sea and Beach Festival, rushed to help.
Aaron Forsyth got Billy in the water and hauled him ashore, while the rest of the team rescued Daisy.
Nick Turner, district councillor for coastal protection, praised the team for their efforts.
He said: “It had been a long and very busy weekend but the team were still on their toes and ready for whatever came their way.
