We spend a large proportion of our day at work, during which we can frequently be stressed or rushed off our feet; therefore it comes as no surprise that people are becoming increasingly concerned with their wellness in the workplace. With many people sitting at a desk all day, typing away for multiple hours at a time, it’s not uncommon either for many workers to experience aches and pains as a result of these sedentary activities.

To help address these everyday workplace issues, The Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel has launched a pop-up wellbeing spa service for local businesses, with the aim of boosting mental health and productivity in the workplace.

Rebecca Randall, spa manager at Bedford Lodge, said: “The initial idea came from us looking to improve the wellness of our own therapists and making their work environment the best it could be. We then thought about other workplaces and how we could help achieve the same elsewhere, and have a real positive impact.

“Many people sit at a desk for long periods of time and often don’t take their full lunch break, and we wanted to show how important taking a break from work is to minimise stress and increase productivity.”

Therapists from The Spa can visit workplaces for around two to four hours, and as long as there is somewhere quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of others, can offer 15 minute treatments that allow workers to switch off and de-stress.

There are three treatments on offer; an Indian head massage to relieve tension, a hand and arm massage ideal for alleviating finger and hand aches from working on a computer, and a mini-foot treatment perfect for those who work on their feet for long hours. All of these treatments include the use of ESPA aromatherapy oils, which further allows those being treated to unwind by encouraging their muscles to warm up and relax.

A survey carried out by The Spa with workers who have experienced these in-work treatments already reiterates the idea that taking regular breaks can spark creativity and productivity, boost the immune system, improve sleep quality and reduce overall stress. Of those surveyed, 100% of people said they found the wellbeing pop-up in their office beneficial to their working day as it made them more relaxed and less stressed, and that regular wellbeing pop-up treatments would improve their overall wellness at work in the long term.
