Essex police are appealing for witnesses after 16 beehives were stolen from Braintree.

The theft took place between 8pm on Thursday, May 17 and 8am on Friday, May 18.

A total of 16 colonies of bees in hives, weighing around 50kg each, were taken from between Beazley End and Bocking Churchstreet.

If you saw any suspicious activity in the area during this time, call 101 quoting crime reference number 42/69326/18.
