Police in Bury St Edmunds have closed Beetons Way after a lorry struck a bridge.
Police were called at 7.55am to the bridge for the A14, where a lorry is reported to have struck the bridge.
A Suffolk police spokeswoman said the road has been closed to both traffic and pedestrians while the damage is assessed and recovery takes place.
Highways England has also been called to assess the damage.
Motorists in the area are being advised to use a different route and to allow extra time for their journey.
