New figures have revealed a surge in burglaries in East Anglia over the past year.

According to Home Office figures, published by the Office of National Statistics, there were 3,000 more reported incidents of burglary in East Anglia than in the previous year.

Published on January 25, the stats revealed that 39,570 burglaries in total were recorded by police in the region between October 2016 and September 2017.

Burglaries increased nine per cent, with 3,363 more incidents than 2015/16. Domestic burglaries accounted for 23,854 of the total number of burglaries over the 12-month period.

Essex saw the highest number of domestic burglaries committed, at 8,198, followed by Hertfordshire with 4,115, Bedfordshire with 3,720, Cambridgeshire with 3,464, Norfolk with 2,185, and Suffolk with 2,172.
