POLICE in Essex have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a crash on the A12 last night left a teenage motorcyclist in hospital.

During the collision the 17-year-old rider was thrown from his yellow Aprilia motorbike, which was then dragged about a mile down the carriageway by another vehicle before it was dumped by the side of the road.

The accident happened on the Ipswich-bound side of the dual carriageway at about 11pm last night near Kelvedon and the young rider was taken to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesman said: “The bike was carried nearly a mile and a half to a lay-by where it was left and officers believe it may have been carried under or on the second vehicle, which they are looking to trace.”

Anyone who has information about the crash or the vehicle that failed to stop at the scene can contact Pc Mick Wills of Stanway Road Policing Unit on 01206 762512.
