A PIGEON has closed an Ipswich town centre shop today.

New Look in the Buttermarket Shopping Centre had to shut its doors at about 10am today after the bird made its way inside.

Store staff were unable to catch it so pest control experts have been called.

The fashion chain was closed as a precautionary health and safety move because of fears the pigeon may be unhygienic.

Colin Roberts, Buttermarket centre manager, said it was not unusual for pigeons to get into the centre, but he had not heard of one reaching a store and resulting in it closing before.

He said it was not yet clear when New Look would reopen.
