HOUSEHOLDERS in west Suffolk are being warned to be on high alert after bogus callers barged their way into an elderly woman's home in Glemsford this afternoon.

She had a lucky escape after a visitor called and they fled, but police are worried they might try it on in the area again.

Two men called at the door of a woman in her 80s in New Cut, Glemsford at around 1.40pm today.

Police have reported they pushed past the elderly lady saying there was a water leak and they needed to check the pressure.

They then went into the kitchen with her but ran out of the house through the front door when a relative of the woman arrived.

The men have been described as white, of slim build, tall and in their 20s. One was wearing beige clothing, the other dark clothing.

A police spokeswoman said: “Householders are reminded to check the ID of callers, not to let anyone in if you are unhappy and call police.”

Anyone with any information about this incident should contact Sudbury CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
