Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed in Osborne Street, Colchester, in the early hours of this morning.

Essex Police officers were called shortly after 12.30am to a stretch of road opposite the Bus Station and Gala Bingo.

A force spokeswoman said that a 17-year-old boy had been stabbed, and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He is now in a non-critical condition.

The spokeswoman added: “This appears to be a targeted attack and we do not believe there is a threat to the wider public.”

A tweet by special constable Dan Atkinson this morning said: “Incident last night on Osborne Street Colchester. Road is closed to pedestrians and vehicles, please plan accordingly.”
