Police in Essex have arrested two 17-year-old boys in connection with a late night attack in Witham.

Emergency services were called to reports that a man had been assaulted and knocked unconscious at around 1.30am on Saturday.

Police said: “We were called to a disturbance outside the Red Lion pub involving a group of people during which a man, aged in his 20s, was assaulted and was knocked unconscious.

“He was taken to hospital with fractures to his face.”

Detectives investigating the alleged attack have since made two arrests in connection with the incident.

Two 17-year-old boys from Witham were arrested on Saturday afternoon, at around 3.40pm, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

They remain in custody for questioning.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses, CCTV and dash cam footage.
