Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered at a Essex home last night - days after a fire broke out.
The 64-year-old man was found dead at an address in Rifle Hill, Braintree.
Fire crews were called at 9.48pm by police officers reporting signs of an extinguished fire.
Braintree firefighters determined that a blaze may have broken out a few days earlier and that the man had been overcome by smoke while in his sitting room.
Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death today, as a fire investigation officer returns to the scene to establish how the fire started.
