A BOGUS caller who walked into the home of a man in his 90s was pushed out of the house and sent packing empty handed.

Police are investigating the incident which happened yesterday in Newmarket at about 2.15pm.

The con artist called at the home of a man in his 90s in George Lambton Avenue and said something about water, pointing upstairs before entering the property without the resident's permission.

The caller then went into the kitchen with the man and started running the tap.

The elderly man repeatedly told the caller to get out of his house and pushed him back out of the kitchen. The caller then left, continuing to talk about the water. Nothing was stolen.

The bogus caller was white, in his 40s, 5 foot 8 inches tall, of medium build and unshaven and was wearing a blue padded jacket and dark trousers.

Anybody with any information about the incident should call DC Mark Robinson at Forest Heath CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Police have urged residents not to let strangers into their homes without checking their identification, and to alert police immediately using 999 if they are suspicious.
