A POPULAR village fete has fell victim to the wet weather, organisers have said.

The Bredfield Fete, near Woodbridge was due to entertain hundreds of people from 2.15pm to 5pm today but has had to be cancelled due to the damp weather.

The organising committee said will be postponing the event until July 5, when they hope for more pleasant conditions.

Andrew Miller, chairman of the fete organising committee, said: “From my point of view it was quite a responsibility calling it off because we have never done it before. But really the weather just got the better of us this time.

“Everything is just underwater but the ladies who have baked the cakes for the teas have come up to the village hall and quite a crowd of people have come here for that. So we have managed to salvage a little bit of it.”

He added the extra time to stage the event would allow them to make the event bigger and better.
