PART of the A11 was closed tonight after a petrol tanker broke down.
Police were called to the A11 at Icklingham at 7.05pm after one of the tanker's tyres burst, causing the northbound carriageway to be blocked.
Officers contacted the Highways Agency and a tyre company, who attended the scene.
A spokesman from Suffolk Police said that on arrival the mechanic refused to work on the tanker unless the road was closed due possible sparks on the wheel.
The spokesman continued: “The road was closed between the B1112 and the B1106 in both directions while the tyre was changed.”
