TWO brothers charged with the murder of banker Frank McGarahan appeared at Norwich Crown Court today. .

Tom Cowles 21, and Ben Cowles 20, of Beaumont Road, Costessey are charged with the murder of father of two Mr McGarahan 45, who was chief operating officer of Barclays Wealth, a role in which he controlled the assets of some of the world's wealthiest individuals.

Ben Cowle is also charged with assault on Mr McGarahan's brother Kevin, Mr McGarahan's cousin Sean Ryan and Lithuanian man Robertas Sinkevicius.

The brothers were dressed causally but smart in open-necked shirts and did not speak other than to confirm their names. No pleas were taken.

The court was packed with relatives of the dead man, Mr McGarahan as well as relatives of the two defendants.

They were both remanded in custody and are due to appear for a further hearing on December 17.

Their trial is expected to take place in April to May next year.

Mr McGarahan had been in Norwich to attend a family christening and had enjoyed a meal in the city centre with friends and relatives on the night before he died.

Post mortem examination tests showed he died from a brain injury.
