The full line-up has been announced for an annual musical showcase, which last year raised more then £9,000 for local charities.

Bures Music Festival, from July 8 to 13, is set to feature five days of varied musical styles from rock and pop to blues and jazz, all performed in a picturesque setting by the River Stour.

This year, the festival will play host to music royalty including The Pretty Things, Henry Padovani and legendary jazz saxophonist Alan Barnes.

A tribute night will feature Fleetwood Bac and Planet Abba, while up-and-coming stars will battle it out in the B-Fest Young Musicians’ Competition.

In addition to providing musical entertainment, the festival which started as ‘Jazz by the Stour’ has donated more than £157,000 to local good causes during the past 18 years.

The fun will kick off on the Wednesday with ‘choral night’ in St Mary’s Church featuring Funky Voices choir, known for its feel-good repertoire of rich harmonies. Thursday’s ‘Jazznights Presents’ in the festival marquee, hosted by former Shakatak drummer Roger Odell, will be headlined by saxophonist Alan Barnes fresh from recording The Great Gatsby soundtrack with The Bryan Ferry Orchestra, and a tour with Paloma Faith.

Friday will be ‘blues and rock’ night, while Saturday afternoon will see the B-Fest young musicians’ challenge. The event is open to solo singers and instrumentalists, small bands, groups and choirs, and this year the age limit has been increased to entrants aged between nine and 19.

Sunday is set to be a sell-out with a line-up of top local bands including indie stars Frett, The Humdingers, Face Furniture, Jupiter Ray and the Jim Jims.

Festival organiser Tom Moore said: “Bures Music Festival is renowned for quality music in a friendly small-festival atmosphere – perfect for music lovers and families. We’re upping our game for 2014 with an eclectic line-up, great beer and food, plus kids’ rides. And with tickets ranging from only £5 to £35 for a five-day festival pass, it’s great value for money.”
