A BURGLAR conned his way into the Suffolk home of an 82-year-old woman and stole her handbag.

The theft happened in Dennington, near Framlingham, at about 3.40pm on Tuesday.

The woman was sitting at the front of her home when a man approached the house. He told her there were two boys in her back garden and that she should take a look.

The woman locked her front door and went to the back of the property but then noticed the man standing at the side of her home. As she went further down the garden she turned to see the man going into the house.

He then left with her black leather handbag, containing medication, personal documents, cash and bank books.

A police spokeswoman said last night: “It is despicable that someone has targeted a lady of her age.”

The offender is described as white, around 5ft 10ins, of heavy build, with a rough complexion, greying hair and wearing a beige T-shirt, with writing across the front, and blue jeans.

A white Ford Transit-style van - with a man, possibly in his 50s, a blonde-haired woman and a child in - was seen in the area around this time.

Police are trying to trace the occupants of this vehicle and are asking anyone with information about them to contact detectives.

Anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity, or who may have any information about the incident, is asked to call Leiston CID on 01986 835300.
