A water main burst in Walnut Tree Lane, Sudbury, shortly before 8.30pm.

It resulted in the surface of the road lifting up with cars unable to pass.

Suffolk police said water was running into The Mill Hotel.

A spokesperson for Anglian Water said 18 properties were without water and said it was the location of the burst main which was the problem. “It is on a hill so the water is cascading down the road so there is a lot of water,” the spokesperson said.
