More than 2,000 skateboarders and BMX riders are expected to take part in the Skate Jam to mark the official opening of the new Bury St Edmunds skate park tomorrow.
The concrete skate park has cost about £250,000 – with St Edmundsbury Borough Council contributing £150,000 and the skateboarding community raising the rest of the cash as well as choosing the designs.
Councillor Robert Everitt, cabinet member for communities at the borough council, said it had been a “marvellous collaboration”.
He said: “I am full of admiration for the young people who were involved in the design and delivery of this fantastic scheme. The old skatepark was well used but had reached the end of its useful life. The new skatepark is not only designed to be more fun for its users, but is also built to last for at least 30 years.”
The Skate Jam is taking place tomorrow from 12pm until 6pm.
