A 56-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court today charged with the murder of a woman in Bury St Edmunds.
Andrew Ratcliffe, of Wherstead Road in Ipswich, is accused of murdering Mary Roberts, 50, from Long Melford, whose body was found in the car park of the St Edmunds Tavern pub in Risbygate Street on March 27.
Ratcliffe had a hearing today at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court where he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court tomorrow.
A second man, a 59-year-old from the Bury St Edmunds area who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, remains on police bail and is due to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on Wednesday.
