A spate of “walk-in” burglaries in west Suffolk has prompted a police warning urging residents to their lock doors and windows.
Three burglaries have taken place in Bury St Edmunds last week, with the third happening on Thursday in St Olaves Road between 1am and 6.10am.
The offenders are thought to have entered via an open window or unlocked back door before taking an Xbox 360 and a purse from the living room,
Two more walk-in burglaries took place in Newmarket Road and Wigston Road earlier in the week.
Detective Inspector Nick Power, of Bury St Edmunds CID, said: “With the onset of warmer weather it is very easy for people to forget to close their windows at night and this unfortunately leaves an invitation to opportunist burglars.
“We would advise that residents ensure they always keep their windows closed at night or if out of the house and their doors locked at all times even if at home, especially if they are upstairs or out in the garden.”
