A power company is ‘doing its bit’ to help enhance support for dementia patients at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds by entering a team into an energy-packed annual contest.

Staff from UK Power Networks, which owns and maintains electricity cables and lines in the East of England, are supporting the Forget-Me-Not Dementia Campaign at It’s a Bury Knockout at Hardwick Heath, Bury St Edmunds, on Sunday.

The West Suffolk Hospital campaign, run in partnership with the East Anglian Daily Times and its sister Mercury titles, aims to raise £25,000 to further enhance its support for patients with dementia. So far, fundraising has reached just over £11,000.

It’s a Bury Knockout and the family fun day, now in its third year, will take place between noon and 4pm.

Participating teams were asked to raise a minimum £500 entry fee, with UK Power Networks putting their fundraising towards the dementia campaign.

Two staff members, Imma Parlato and Lee Warwick, recently boosted their funds by taking part in the West Suffolk Hospital Charity sky dive. Team organiser Ann-Marie Francis said staff were looking forward to taking part in It’s a Bury Knockout once again.

She said: “We were part of the event last year and there was a great sense of camaraderie among colleagues and also other teams.

“It really is a great event to be part of and we are looking forward to doing our bit for the Forget-Me-Not appeal.”

The Knockout will boast 15 participating teams as well as a host of stalls and demonstrations. A funfair, quad biking and laser quest – for both adults and children – will also add to the atmosphere.

The event will again be sponsored by Bury St Edmunds-based Taylor Engall with support from Bury Round Table and the Bury St Edmunds District Scouts and Explorers.

Dave Gooderham, fundraising manager at the hospital, said: “To be able to count on the support of some wonderful businesses and local organisations is great.

“Their generosity adds to the community and family feel of the day. We would also like to thank Explore 4x4 for donating a team prize, everyone who has agreed to help volunteer on the day and all the other local businesses who have promoted and supported the event so generously.”

Paul Taylor, of Taylor Engall, said: “We are delighted to be the main sponsor of It’s a Bury Knockout 2014. Last year’s event was a great success and brilliant to be part of, and this year promises to be even better.”
