A Bury St Edmunds student who had major brain surgery last year is hoping to find sponsors to help him go on a once-in-a-lifetime expedition to Borneo.

Joshua Williams, 15, who attends Sybil Andrews Academy, is participating in a trip to the Asian island with five other students from the school with Camps International in July and August next year.

The four-week expedition will see Joshua, from Stanton, undertake community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation.

The Year 10 student says the expedition is very important to him after he was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge in November last year.

He underwent surgery to replace his shunt tube for hydrocephalus - fluid on the brain – after it became blocked.

Joshua has already been fundraising for his £4,000 target, which included climbing the O2 in London last month.

He is now contacting businesses in the area to try to find sponsors, and anyone interested having their company logo on his expedition t-shirt for a £250 sponsorship fee, can contact joshuawilliams200370@gmail.com
