A Suffolk crop sprayer is celebrating after making it to the finals of a top award.

Simon Reading of A W Mortier, near Woodbridge, was pipped to the post at the International Sprays & Sprayers’ Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year Awards (FSOOTY) 2018 by Devizes arable manager Andrew Woolley.

But awards judges praised his initiatives and ideas striving to enhance operation of the farm’s sprayers to deliver greater productivity per day, along with the accuracy of every treatment. Simon is the farm’s main sprayer operator, responsible for covering over 2500 hectares of diverse arable cropping, including cereals, maize, potatoes sugar beet and field vegetables.

Syngenta application specialist Scott Cockburn, said: “Simon has consistently shown outstanding skills and very high standards to achieve the best possible results.”
