THE King’s Head at Laxfield’ known locally as the Low House, has been named Pub of the Year in the Adnams Pub Awards for 2010.

Licensees Bob Wilson and Linda Bower impressed the judges across the full range of criteria, including their improved food offer, the pub’s well-kept garden and their contribution to the local community, including fund-raising. The Community Pub of the Year title went to the Randolph Hotel at Reydon, where David and Donna Smith provide a huge range of activities and events for the local community, from quiz evenings to family days, as well as supporting local schools and clubs.

Highly commended in the same category were the Half Moon at Walton and the White Horse, Westleton.

The Eco Pub of the Year award went to the Cherry Tree at Woodbridge where Geoff and Sheila Ford have introduced initiatives such as recycling oil from fryers and energy-efficient outside lights.

Dining Pub of the Year was the Bridge House, by London’s Tower Bridge, with the Queen’s Head at Brandeston highly commended.

The award for Best Gardens was won by the World’s End at Mulbarton, Norfolk.

Karen Hester, operations director at Adnams, who presented the awards during a ceremony held at the Swan Hotel in Southwold, said the company was delighted to celebrate its tenants’ achievements.
