ESSEX-BASED charity WHCM Counselling has appointed Anne Bouvier as fundraising and development director.

Ms Bouvier's main challenge is to raise the funds that will help people across Essex and Newham to get access to professional counselling for a wide range of mental health and emotional well-being issues such as depression and divorce.

She has worked in the voluntary sector in the UK since 1993 in the fields of human rights and development policy, where she focused specially on the rights of ethnic minorities and the indigenous peoples who live in tropical forests.

More recently, she led a project challenging the discrimination faced by people with experience of mental distress.

Trudy Kilcullen, chief executive at WHCM, said: “Anne recognises WHCM's commitment to high quality work and to providing a low cost therapy service where none or little may exist.

“We have seen enormous growth in the numbers of people requiring counselling in Essex and so income generation activities are a vital part of us being able to continue to serve our client communities and adapt to their changing needs.”
