Argos to move from Bury St Edmunds town centre to Moreton Hall Sainsbury’s

Argos is set to leave Bury St Edmunds town centre and will open a new-look store within a Moreton Hall supermarket at the end of February, it has been revealed.
The catalogue retailer will launch its new digital shop at Sainsbury’s in Bedingfield Way and staff at the town centre store will be given the opportunity to relocate to the supermarket or move to another Argos branch.
The move will enable customers to shop conveniently through different online, mobile and store channels, according to Sainsbury’s.
The new store will offer thousands of products for immediate pickup, while 20,000 products can also be ordered to collect in store and an extra 20,000 products can be ordered for home delivery. There will also be an eBay collection point so buyers can collect their eBay purchases.
The move comes after Sainsbury’s acquired Home Retail Group, which owns Argos and Habitat, in a £1.4billion takeover last year.
The billion-pound deal means Sainsbury’s now has more than 2,000 stores in its network – 601 supermarkets, 773 convenience stores, 739 Argos stores (including concessions) and three Habitat stores – as well as online channels for food, clothing, financial services and general merchandise.
The major supermarket says it is part of its strategy to help its customers shop whenever and wherever they want.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “The combination of Sainsbury’s and Argos will enable customers to shop conveniently through different online, mobile and store channels.
“We are really proud to be introducing shoppers to our new-look store within Sainsbury’s and give them access to the things they want quickly and easily.
“Shoppers increasingly browse and buy online via PCs, tablets and other mobile devices, while still wanting the immediacy of a local store to pick up their purchases.”

The town centre store will close the day before the new digital store opens in Sainsbury’s but the exact date is not yet known.
