LONG-established accountants and business advisers firm Whiting & Partners is to move from its town centre base in Bury St Edmunds to new purpose-built offices on the edge of town at Moreton Hall.

The firm has been based in Garland Street for more than 25 years but will be relocating next month to Greenwood House, at Greenwood Court, off Skyliner Way, on the Suffolk Business Park.

“Moving out of the town centre will ease access for clients and staff,” said partner Chris Ridgeon. “The days of hunting for a car-parking space will be gone and the working environment will improve around an open plan layout with light and modern meeting rooms.”

The firm was formed in 1928 as Larking, Larking & Whiting, with founders Roland and Gordon Larking and Walter Whiting employing eight staff at offices in Bury, Wisbech and March.

It took on its current name following the retirement of Roland and Gordon Larking in 1968, with Walter Whiting remaining with the firm until retiring in 1974. He died shortly before his 90th birthday, and the firm’s 60th anniversary, in 1988.

Today, Whiting & Partners has eight offices, in Bury, Mildenhall, Ely, March, Peterborough, Ramsey, Wisbech and King’s Lynn, with 20 partners and around 130 staff.
