Cambridge-based planning and property consultancy Januarys is expanding its presence in Suffolk with the acquisition of John Popham Planning in Bury St Edmunds.

The business, based in St Andrews Street South, will continue to trade under its current name but as a “readily identifiable” subsidiary of Januarys.

Founder John Popham will act as a consultant to Januarys with his son, Richard Sykes-Popham, becoming an associate.

Januarys said the team at John Popham Planning specialised in difficult cases and would complement the planning team based at its head office in central Cambridge.

Colin Brown, Januarys’ managing director, said: “We see this exciting acquisition as a significant opportunity to highlight our full service offering to the vibrant property market in Bury.

“The town is in the heart of the region and John Popham Planning is a thriving business with an excellent reputation and a strong market share. The deal made considerable business sense to us.”

John Popham added: “There are great synergies between our planning offer in Bury and the services already provided by Januarys in a broader context throughout the eastern region.

“We are very excited at the prospect of working in close partnership with our new colleagues.”

Januarys is a multi-disciplinary practice specialising in commercial property.
