Pubs and brewing group Greene King is to launch its first railway station pub as part of the Euston Station Balcony Development scheme in London.

The contract, won through competitive tender, was awarded to Bury St Edmunds-based Greene King by Network Rail Property and will run for nine years.

Greene King plans to invest a seven-figure sum in the new pub which is to be named the Duke of Grafton, after the owner of the land on which the original Euston station ? itself named after the duke’s family’s Euston Hall estate in Suffolk ? was built.

The new pub will be based on Greene King’s Metropolitan Pub Company format, which the company describes as involving “urban locals with independent flair and authentic charm”.

Greene King chief executive Rooney Anand said: “It is an exciting time to be developing a pub in a station with rail passenger numbers growing every year and investment in the rail network and the major stations also increasing.

“Stations are a hub of activity and we want to offer rail users a place to eat, drink, meet and work in a relaxed atmosphere where they can enjoy a quality pub experience.

“This latest development will provide a ‘home from home’ for those living in London as well as those working or visiting the capital,” he added.
