CHINESE telecommunications firm Huawei has opened an office at BT’s Adastral Park innovation and development centre.

Members of the Huawei team were welcomed by Phil Dance, managing director of Adastral Park, and Graham Reid, director of the Innovation Martlesham initiative, who presented them with welcome packs, introducing them to Suffolk, written in both English and Mandarin.

Huawei is a leadiing provier of “next generation” telecommunications equipment and solutions for BT’s 21st Century Network and Next Generation Access programmes to improve broadband speeds across the UK.

Mr Dance said: “I am delighted to welcome Huawei, a major multi-national corporation, to the park”.

Mr Reid, who instigated initial discussions between BT and Huawei over the move to Adastral Park, added: “It is very satisfying to see Huawei settled in and fully operational in their new offices.”

The “Welcome to Suffolk” pack, containing key information about the county, was produced by Choose Suffolk, the inward investment and tourism promotion partnership, to help the Huawei team settle in quickly.

Celia Hodson, chief executive of Choose Suffolk, said: “We believe that it is extremely important to help businesses in Suffolk gain access to essential information that can make their move or relocation as quick and smooth a transition as possible. We’re delighted that a world-leading telecommunications company like Huawei has recognised the clear business and lifestyle benefits of its new base on Adastral Park.”
