The joint managing director of celebrated Essex jam company Wilkin & Sons of Tiptree is set to be honoured by Writtle University College.

Chris Newenham will be given an honorary fellowship while Jonathan Jukes, the curator of Marks Hall Gardens and Arboretum in Coggeshall gets an honorary doctorate degree at a Writtle University College’s graduation ceremony this year.

The ceremonies, on September 8 at Chelmsford Cathedral, are the first for new vice chancellor Professor Tim Middleton, who joined the university college in August.

The morning ceremony, where the two will be honoured, will be for Agriculture, Conservation, Floristry, Horticulture and Design graduates at 11am.

Cereals Challenge winners will also be presented. The Animal Science, Equine and Sport graduates will be presented with their degrees on the same day at 2.30pm.
