The main part of the work, including the adventure golf course, children’s play area, dodgems and coffee shop, will be completed by July this year with the remainder finished early in 2019.

The pier will remain open throughout the construction, which is being carried out by its own in-house team and local outside contractors.

“We have been working up this major project for some time and what we could achieve depended totally on the finances available,” said pier director Billy Ball.

Law firm Ellisons Solicitors had been “a great support” in securing investment through NatWest bank which had enabled the project to go ahead, he said. The pier’s owners hope to make it one of region’s premier attractions. Plans include a Skull Point Adventure Golf Course, Discovery Bay Adventure Play and Family Restaurant and Dockside Dodgems.
