THE administrators of collapsed shoe shop chain Barratts Priceless said today that 18 of its stores will close before Christmas.

Five Barratts and 13 Priceless stores, including one at King’s Lynn, in Norfolk, will close on Friday, resulting in the loss of 127 jobs, with a further 60 workers at the firm’s Bradford head office also being made redundant.

Administrator Deloitte said it would continue to trade the remaining 173 stores – which include branches of Priceless in Bury St Edmunds and Colchester – as it seeks a buyer for all or parts of the business as a going concern.

Also to close are Barratts stores in Connswater, Kilmarnock, Darlington, Cardiff and Blackpoo and Priceless branches in Croydon, Durham, Oldham, Strabane, Crossgates, Kettering, Carlow, Donaghmede, Torquay, Weymouth, Bexhill-on-Sea, and Erdington.

The shoe chain collapsed into administration earlier this month, after unseasonably mild weather further exacerbated already difficult trading conditions.
