Marketing consultancy Barker Johnson Peal has won two major contracts within weeks of its start-up.

Marketing consultancy Barker Johnson Peal has won two major contracts within weeks of its start-up.

The partnership is founded on the belief that in the current climate many organisations are looking to buy in specialist advice.

First on the books was double Queen's Award winner STG Aerospace of Swaffham.

Barker Johnson Peal will act as the company's outsourced marketing depart-ment, developing and implementing brand strategy.

The new business then won a three-way pitch to work for the East of England Development Agency. It will develop and articulate the brand representing the UK's motor sport industry cluster, known as Motorsport Valley.

Founders Donna Barker, Thomas Cowper Johnson and Patrick Peal each have at least 20 years' experience behind them.

Mr Peal is managing director of PR agency Band & Brown Communications and Ms Barker is deputy MD.

They set up the new venture with Mr Cowper Johnson after noticing that some clients, such as STG Aerospace, wanted more strategic marketing advice.

Mr Cowper Johnson said: "What we offer is our time and our experience – as little or as much as the client requires. It's a proposition that works for SMEs which don't have in-house marketing teams and also for blue-chips that want the insight an objective view can bring."

He had over 13 years' experience in London advertising agencies before taking on the role of director of brand at Norwich Union, prior to forming Barker Johnson Peal.

Mr Peal is former head of communications at Group Lotus, while Ms Barker specialises in public and media relations, having previously worked at Archant and Norwich Union.
