It is believed that more than 2,000 hectares of farmland were flooded during December 5 to 7 tidal surge, the National Farmers’ Union (NFU) says.

No official estimates have been provided for the area of agricultural land affected, it says, but its flood risk adviser, Ian Moodie, would like to hear from members affected by flooding as a result of the storm surge to get an estimate of the impact on the agricultural sector. Email ian.moodie@nfu.org.uk.

Flooding to agriculture and rural communities elsewhere includes land north of Boston in Lincolnshire, along the North coast of Norfolk and parts of the Suffolk and Essex coast.

The NFU would like to hear from members affected by flooding as a result of the storm surge in order to get an estimate of the impact on the agricultural sector.
