East of England Co-op’s Tremendous Tractor Tour rolled into Ipswich with its two Suffolk Producer of the Year nominees this week.
The tractor toured the region, taking in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk on Tuesday, January 30, to promote local produce from its six contenders across the three counties.
It arrived to join the lunchtime crowds at University College Suffolk, accompanied by Suffolk shortlisted producers Alaistaire Brice from Havensfield Eggs and Prudence Battle from Purely Pesto. Students and passers-by were handed fresh eggs and pesto and encouraged to vote for their favourite local producer.
The retail chain’s joint boss Roger Grosvenor said the event was “a roaring success”. “In Ipswich, we had many students (and lecturers!) bringing their friends down to get their hands on some free eggs and pesto for their lunch,” he said. Public voting for county winners closed on January 31.
