East of England: Last Shire Horse Society spring show at East of England Showground set to break records

The largest gathering of Shire horses in the world will descend on Peterborough in March for what is set to be the Shire Horse Society’s most successful Spring Show.
A record number of entrants have already signed up to the three-day event, which takes place at the East of England Showground on March 15, 16 and 17.
Enthusiasts will travel from across Europe to show their horses.
Society secretary David Ralley-Davies said: “With nearly 400 entries registered so far this is without a doubt going to be the largest gathering of Shire horses in the world so we want to thank in advance everyone who has registered for making it so special.”
The event will see hundreds of Shire horses compete in what is regarded as the national championships.
The prestigious King George V Cup will be awarded to the most impressive stallion and a host of other trophies will be handed out over the weekend.
The three-day event will also feature demonstrations and competitions, trade stands, vintage tractors and farm machinery displays and the heavy horses farriery competition.

Sponsors for the event include botanical brewers Fentimans and Fullers.
“The Spring Show is a fantastic day out for the whole family providing a great insight into this magnificent breed as well as raising awareness of the Society’s work,” added David.
This is the last year the Spring Show will be held at the East of England Showground as the Society prepares to move to a new, purpose-built premise at Rockingham Castle, in Leicestershire, this summer, to run its own administration.
Tickets for the event cost £8 for adults, £5 for children and £6 for senior citizens. Friday entry (half day) costs £5.
