EAVA toasts record number of entries at annual regional wine awards event in Ipswich

East Anglian vineyard owners are toasting the region’s best wines after a record number of entries at an annual event.
The East Anglian Vineyard Association’s Wine of the Year Competition took place at Copdock Hall, near Ipswich, on Friday, June 8.
Top prize went to Toppesfield Bacchus Reserve from Halstead scooped the best overall East Anglian win award, as well as being crowned best Bacchus.
Cambridgeshire-based Chilford Hall Vineyard’s ortega/siegerebe took best white, while best red went to Flint Vineyard in Norfolk.
Best rosé was Tuffon Hall Beatrice pinot noir from Essex, and best sparking went to Chet & Waveney Valley Horatio rosé phoenix/seyval/regent from Norfolk.

They were chosen from a record number of 73 entries. EAVA chairman Dale Symons said: “The judges said they had a tough job agreeing on the winners which underlines how good are wines are becoming.
“We now have 450 acres under vine in our region which makes our region the fifth largest in the UK. That acreage continues to grow by the year adding to the near 1m bottles produced in our region.”
