Ed Sheeran helped the British record industry to rake in a record-breaking $408m overseas last year.
The BPI said export revenues grew by 12% compared with 2016, driven by “phenomenal global demand” for Ed Sheeran’s third album Divide.
The record sold 6.1m copies last year, beating releases by Taylor Swift.
In total, UK artists accounted for one in ever eight albums sold worldwide in 2017, with British artists creating four of the year’s top 10 bestsellers.
According to the latest Rich List by the Sunday Times, Ed Sheeran’s net worth has grown by £28million in the past year, making his total estimated wealth at the moment an impressive £80million.
