Chelmsford Diocese will be celebrating Plough Sunday at Thaxted Parish Church on Sunday (January 14) at 11am.
The event will be hosted by the Revd Philip Tarris and the parishes of Thaxted, the Sampfords, Radwinter and Hempstead.
“All are welcome to join us as we bless all who work on the land at the beginning of the year,” said diocesan rural adviser and agricultural chaplain Rev Janet Nicholls.
Thaxted Morris Men lead a vintage plough into the church. Farmers are invited to bring soil from their farms for blessing.The Venerable Robin King, Archdeacon of Stansted, will bless members of the farming community and a modern plough before it returns to the fields.
The service will be led by Revd Philip Tarris, Archdeacon Robin King and Rev Nicholls with contributions from local farmers and Essex Young Farmers. All are invited to a Ploughman’s Lunch in the church following the service.
