Jockey Frankie Dettori have made their home at White Horse Stables, positioned just outside Newmarket - the headquarters of horse racing.
Now with plans to have their new home built just a few miles away, White Horse Stables, with its paddocks and parkland is on the market.
Racing legend Frankie has been riding winners for decades.
The three times champion jockey has ridden more than 500 Group race winners, and famously rode seven winners in the same day at Ascot, in 1996, on British Champions’ Day.
He is still very busy and competitive, both in this country, in France and around the world, including the USA for the Breeders Cup.
Estate agent Caroline Edwards, of Carter Jonas said: “This is a superb family home, and it is also attracting quite a lot of equestrian interest, people with dressage yards, or showjumping, and there has been overseas interest too.
“It is in a lovely position so close to Newmarket and the racecourses.”
White Horse Stables, modernised and extended by the Dettori’s, is a five bedroom country house set in approximately 15.4 acres of landscaped gardens and grounds, including stables, of course, post and rail paddocks and a floodlit manege.
There is also a detached cottage.
This substantial home now includes five reception rooms, a master bedroom with en suite bathroom and a dressing room, and four more bedrooms and three further bath/shower rooms.
It is being sold with a £2,45 million guide price by Carter Jonas in Suffolk.
The heart of the house is the stunning kitchen/dining/family room, which has views over the gardens and grounds to the horizon.
This is the home of Frankie and Catherine Dettori and their five children, and their menagerie of animals and pets.
It is a very busy home.
I called in at mealtime when Catherine was preparing a big bowl of penne pasta in tomato sauce, and chicken nuggets, for a hungry hoard of children.
A couple of their own children were out with friends, but teenager Leo had a couple of his friends around so it was well received.
Frankie himself, having been working out in the gym, was now putting on extra layers ready to go out on a training run.
No pasta for him.
Jockeys have to make many sacrifices to get down to their riding weight.
“I’ve got 3lbs to lose for next week,” he said before setting off. “You always have to watch what you weight. It is tough.
Catherine added: “Life as a jockey is a bit rough.”
The couple bought the property a year before they married, she explained, and there has been a programme of investment and improvements.
“We bought the house before we were married and we spend nine to 12 months gutting it, and doing it up - and we moved in on our wedding night.
“We have been doing it up for the third time.”
“We put the extra family room, on 11 years ago.”
The ground floor accommodation has doubled, compared with the original house, and there is an integral gym complex which includes an indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna, a steam room/wet room and a games room. Plenty to keep the children occupied.
Outside, as well as riding for the children, there is a treehouse and a trampoline.
“It is a great party house and the children often have friends round,” said Catherine.
All five children ride, and Leo,15, plays polo with the Suffolk Polo Club based at Hare Park.
Their own animal community includes seven ponies/horses, two miniature Mediterranean donkeys, two small dogs and Bruce - the Emu.
Bruce, who arrived as a chick, is now fully grown and a real character.
He came up to the decking and we fed him broken digestive biscuits.
Catherine said: “We actually call him Beepy, the sounds he makes. He doesn’t know if he is a pony, a donkey or a dog.”
The children had gone off to play on the trampoline, and the house was quiet.
From the decking we looked across to the tree-line, and the boundary of the grounds.
“We have absolutely beautiful sunsets here. It has been glorious this year,” she added.
“We think it is a perfect family home. It has been perfect for us.
“You could be miles from anywhere.
“This is the ideal home. It is only two minutes into Newmarket, when Frankie goes to the Gallops, and two minutes to the main road for going up north or to the airport.
“It is only 15 minutes into Cambridge.”
