A HI-TECH Essex firm has announced a sponsorship deal with a Maldon school.

CML Microcircuits UK Ltd of Maldon, which provides low power semiconductors for the wireless and telecoms market, is offering a yearly award at the Plume school to encourage youngsters to pursue technical qualifications.

The George Gurry Technology Award is named after the founder and executive chairman of the firm, established almost 40 years ago.

For a chance to win the prize, which consists of a £500 award and a trophy, pupils must have chosen to pursue a technical discipline at university.

“In today's tough climate, undergraduates need as much financial help as possible to alleviate the financial burden associated with many of the technical courses on offer,” explained CML marketing spokesman Mark Channen.

School head Sarah Dignasse said they were “delighted” to receive support from such a recognised local leader in industry.
