A landmark Colchester pub has been sold.

A landmark Colchester pub, The Castle Inn, has new owners.

The East office of leisure property specialists Fleurets has completed the sale of the pub.

The Castle Inn is on the eastern end of the High Street and is close to some of the town’s major retailers, hotels, bars and restaurants.

It sits directly in front of Colchester’s Norman castle and Castle Park, which attract high visitor numbers throughout the year.

The Castle Inn’s leasehold has been acquired by The Castle Pub Colchester Ltd, a new pub company.

The leasehold property was placed on the market with Fleurets by owners Alan Dennis and Amanda Halsey who had operated this popular venue since 2000. In 2006, they added a function room with a self contained dispensing bar, and fold back doors that open out onto the large beer garden.

Simon Jackaman of Fleurets said: “This was an excellent business having been under the ownership of Alan and Amanda for a number of years. I suspect their many regular customers will miss them but I was delighted to sell the business to the Castle Pub Colchester Limited who have many new and exciting plans for the Castle Inn and I wish them every success”.

A public house has stood on this site since 1690; the current property is mostly from around the 18th century and is Grade II listed and has many original features.

The Castle Inn’s leasehold interest was sold for an undisclosed amount, off an asking price of £99,500 for the business and trade contents.
