The UK craft retailer, Hobbycraft, is set to open a new store near Ipswich on Thursday October 6, 2016.

The arts and crafts store - which will be located at Beardmore Park, has created 20 new jobs for local people, with more than 265 applications received for positions.

The store will be officially opened on Saturday October 8 and the first 100 customers in store will receive a free goody bag worth £5.

Among the new recruits is Pat Hickman, 60, who is delighted with her new position as a general assistant.

Pat said: “This is the perfect role for me as I am a self-taught crafter and love to teach myself new techniques in my spare time. I have a particular passion for card making, crochet and pigment powder painting.

“I can’t wait to begin working at Hobbycraft, as my new role means I’ll be able to work in a place with a fantastic team that share the same passion as me for crafts. It will be great to be able to share my crafting skills, as well as learning new ones, with local groups and customers.”

Store manager, Greg Chivers said: “We’ve been working very hard over the past few months to make sure the store is exactly what people have been asking for. Whether you’re at an advanced crafting level or just want some tips on how to get started, we’ve something to offer everyone.

“Our colleagues are devoted crafters and they’re always happy to share their knowledge. Local artists will also be invited to spend time at the store to showcase their own skills.”
