Housebuilder Redrow is returning to Colchester with a new development that will have a total sales value of around £50 million.

Following land acquisitions in Bury St. Edmunds and Hitchin, Basildon-based Redrow Homes (Eastern) has acquired the 11-acre site of the former Royal London sports ground off Mill Road, Colchester.

Planning permission has been granted for 259 new homes, involving a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments and two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Geoff Keer, development director for Redrow Homes (Eastern), said: “We've worked closely with Colchester Borough Council to ensure that the development is in keeping with the Essex Design Guide in respect of layout, density and elevational treatments.

“Redrow will be remembered in Colchester for its Schooner's Creek development at Rowhedge and our new development will deliver the same high quality standards, with an extensive range of properties that will offer something for pretty much everybody.”

Redrow has begun work on site and is preparing to launch the development this summer. Having been unused for a number of years, the former sports ground has become overgrown but does contain a number of mature trees which are being retained.
