Brand New You is being held as part of the University of Suffolk’s Year of Celebration at its Waterfront Building in Ipswich.

Phil Pallen, originally from Canada and now living in the United States, has worked with more than 200 clients, ranging from entrepreneurs who have pitched on Shark Tank (the US version of Dragons’ Den) to celebrities appearing on Dancing with the Stars (the US version of Strictly Come Dancing), as well as a number of national leaders.

He has travelled widely to share his knowledge and ideas at events and conferences around the world, including the iMedia Brand Summit Japan, but Brand New You, taking place on Wednesday, March 1, will be his first visit to Suffolk.

Polly Bridgman, director of external relations at the University of Suffolk, said: “We’re all really looking forward to Phil’s visit.

“He is keen to share his knowledge and experience with students and the local business community. It really is quite a coup to have him here in the region and we urge start-ups and entrepreneurs to take up the opportunity to benefit from Brand New You.”

Phil said: “I am very excited to visit Suffolk for the first time. Having spoken twice as a keynote at New Media Europe, I love the warm response I get from audiences in the UK, who find my energy and action-oriented content refreshing. Brand New You will explain exactly how you need to position, build and promote your brand so it stands out and people take notice.

“I approach my talks from the standpoint of sharing knowledge I wish I knew when I graduated. I believe students are in a powerful position than anyone else when it comes to pursuing a career based on something they love.”

Alex Till, chief executive of enterprise agency Menta, which is sponsoring Brand New You, added: “I’m looking forward to hearing Phil Pallen and his thoughts and ideas regarding branding. As the business support agency for Suffolk, Menta are pleased that our sponsorship enables students to attend at a subsidised rate.”

Brand New You will run from 10am to 4pm and consist of a morning lecture and an afternoon workshop. Tickets cost £40 for the lecture only or £65 for the full day, including lunch and take-home materials.

Tickets are available for the general public and for University of Suffolk students by visiting www.uos.ac.uk/events/brand-new-you.

Three top reasons why you need a brand

“Some people think a brand is just a logo. Some people think a brand is the written voice. Others think it’s the product,” says Phil Pallen. “It’s all of those things and so much more.”

Here are his top three reasons why you need a brand:

•A brand makes you money. I’ve witnessed clients go from break-even (or worse) to revenue generating just with an effective brand that tells people who they are and why they should care.

•A brand gives you clarity. We’ve all had that moment where you’re staring at a blank page, holding that pencil, wondering where to start. A brand eliminates that daunting beginning by giving you a foundation to launch from.

•A brand make you happy. When you’ve got a visual and/or written version of yourself online for the whole world to see, you’ll feel accomplished and confident. The world will be your oyster because your brand tells you and everyone else that you deserve that pearl.
